THE "if" STATEMENT

Next Slide

JAVA USES A GRAMATICAL FORM CALLED AN "IF" STATEMENT TO SPECIFY THAT CERTAIN INSTRUCTIONS ARE CONDITIONAL.

 if (  the coordinates are just right  ) {
	pen.invertRect();
 }

THIS CONSTRUCT HAS TWO PARTS:

  • A HEADING THAT DESCRIBES THE CONDITION (USING JAVA SYNTAX WE WILL DISCUSS SHORTLY), AND

  • A BODY CONSISTING OF COMMANDS (SURROUNDED BY BRACES) THAT SHOULD ONLY BE OBEYED IF THE CONDITION IS MET.
