TO APPRECIATE THE ADVANTAGES OF USING 8-BIT COLOR CONSIDER A 100 x 100 PIXEL IMAGE.

  • THE IMAGE CONTAINS A TOTAL OF 10,000 PIXELS.

  • USING 24-BIT COLOR EACH PIXEL WOULD REQUIRE 3 BYTES FOR A TOTAL OF 30,000 BYTES.

  • USING 8-BIT COLOR WOULD REQUIRE:

    • A LIST OF UP TO 256 3 BYTE ENTRIES TO DESCRIBE THE PALETTE.
    • 10,000 BYTES FOR THE INDIVIDUAL PIXELS

    OR A TOTAL OF 10,768 BYTES.
