BECAUSE PACKETS TRAVEL THROUGH A PACKET SWITCHED NETWORK INDEPENDENTLY, THEY MAY NOT ARRIVE IN THE ORDER IN WHICH THEY WERE SENT.

  • IN ADDITION TO SOLVING THE PROBLEM OF LOST PACKETS, SEQUENCE NUMBERS PROVIDE AN OBVIOUS WAY TO MAKE SURE THAT MESSAGES ARE DELIVERED AND PROCESSED IN THE ORDER THEY WERE SENT.
