Making it Look Sharp
Photoshop includes a filter than can be used to make a picture look
sharper by increasing the contrast. This filter is usually safe to
apply to the entire image.
- Make sure there is no selection by choosing "Deselect" from
the "Select" menu (if possible).
- Select the "Unsharp Mask" filter from the "Sharpen"
sub-menu of the "Filter" menu.
- Move the "Unsharp Mask" dialog so that you can see most of
the butterfly.
- In the dialog box, set the "Amount" to 50%, the "Radius"
to 3.0 and the Threshold to 5.
- Use the mouse to check and uncheck the "Preview" box so that
you can compare the original image to the sharpened image.
- Repeatedly adjust the "Amount", "Radius" and "Threshold"
controls until you are happy with the appearance of the image (just
don't ask me to explain what they all mean). Then, click "OK".
- Save your work.
