Course Schedule
The table below lists the topics we will discuss
and the readings associated with each topic. All readings must be
completed before their associated tutorial meeting.
In most weeks, partners will occupy one of two roles:
a main writer and main responder.
The main writer is responsible for writing a 3-4 page
(900-1200 words) paper responding to the readings.
As the main writer, you should incorporate information from
external articles and outside sources (e.g., popular press,
podcasts, published documents) to support your views and
strengthen your arguments.
Be sure to properly
cite
your sources.
The paper must be committed to your private repository and posted
to the website that you will develop by
9:00am the day before your tutorial meeting.
In other words, if your tutorial meeting is at noon on
Tuesday, the paper must be posted by 9:00am on Monday.
The main responder is responsible for writing a 1-2 page
(no more than 500 words) rebuttal to the main writer's paper.
The critique should briefly summarize the main argument of the
paper, and raise questions about the main writer's stance.
As the main responder, you should play devil's advocate; your
response should effectively support an opposing view even if
you do not agree with that view.
Like the main writer, you should incorporate and properly cite
external articles from outside sources to support your
response's view and strengthen its arguments.
You should commit your response to your private repository and
post it to your website before your scheduled tutorial meeting.
Additional digital resources (when used) will be posted after each
meeting.
Some of these resources will only be accessible from within the
campus network.
Information about the proxy server can be found
here.
The scheduled topics are subject to change: we may wish to explore
new topics in response to current events (there has been no shortage of
relevant topics in recent news cycles...).
If you plan to work ahead, please check with your instructor first.
