Andrea received her PhD from Columbia University in 1992. Her graduate
work focused the integration of deductive (i.e., theory-based) and
inductive machine learning algorithms.
Before coming to Williams, she worked as a researcher at NYNEX Science
and Technology. (NYNEX, the New York and New England telephone company,
is now a part of Verizon.) There she worked in the Expert Systems Lab,
concentrating on the use of machine learning techniques for improving
expert systems for the diagnosis of telecommunications networks.
Andrea's current research focuses on machine learning applications and issues
related to those applications.
She has taught introductory computer science, data structures, theory
of computation, as well as AI (both introductory and elective), machine
learning, and cognitive science.
